Happy Meal Watch Pulled After Kids Burned

McDonald's Pulls Happy Meal Watch After Kids Burned

The “Step-It” watches were included in Happy Meals for about four weeks to coincide with the Olympics, which McDonald’s sponsors.

Casey Collyar of Fort Smith, Arkansas said her son wore the watch for only eight minutes before he was burned. She received messages from eight or nine other parents who said their kids were also injured.

The post has been shared more than 136,000 times. Just days later, McDonald’s removed the watches from Happy Meals.

Terri Hickey, a spokesperson for McDonald’s said, “We have taken this swift and voluntary step after receiving limited reports of potential skin irritations that may be associated from wearing the band.”

This is just the latest in a slew of recalls involving fitness-tracking watches. In March 2014, about 1 million Fitbit watches were recalled after 10,000 users reported skin redness, rashes, or blisters.

Earlier this month, the Basis Peak smart-watches were recalled because it can overheat, which could result in burns or blisters on the skin surface.
