Fiat-Chrysler Recalls Nearly 500,000 Dodge Ram Pickups Over Fire Hazard

2016 Dodge Ram 1500

The recall includes about 494,417 Ram heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks from model years 2013-2017, and medium-duty chassis cabs with model numbers 3500, 4500 and 5500. Affected medium-duty chassis cabs are used for commercial vehicles such as dump trucks, and all recalled trucks have 6.7-litre engines, an FCA spokesman said.

The automaker said affected trucks may “overheat and potentially cause an engine fire.” No estimates have yet been calculated regarding the likely cost of the recall or number of defective water pumps produced.

Fiat-Chrysler said it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries associated with the recall to date.

The move follows a May recall involving about 1.2 million Ram pickup trucks in North America to fix a glitch in safety system sensors. FCA said that problem was linked to at least 1 death and 2 injuries.
