The recall involves two models of iRover hoverboards — Model No. 87645 and Model No. 87644. The number is printed on the bottom of the board and the word “iRover” is printed on the front outer case.
The recalled hoverboards were sold at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Fallas Stores of Los Angeles between December 2015 and December 2016 for $300 to $400.
There have been 2 reports of the lithium-ion battery packs in the recalled hoverboards smoking and overheating. No injuries or property damage have been reported, but the problem poses a safety hazard.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns:
The lithium-ion battery packs in the self-balancing scooters/hoverboards can overheat, posing a risk of smoking, catching fire and/or exploding.”
Owners of the recalled hoverboards should stop using it immediately and contact iRover for instructions on how to return it for a free UL2272-certified replacement hoverboard.
