The company said that a winter blend of fuel can turn to vapor in the fuel line, causing the engine to sputter and stall. Drivers may have trouble restarting the vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.

Subaru began investigating the problem earlier this year after receiving several reports of stalling.

Dealers will update the engine control software so the cooling fan kicks on at a lower temperature. Subaru has not yet indicated when the recall will begin.

To date, no crashes or injuries have been associated with the issue.
