3 Kinds of Organic Butter Recalled for Listeria Contamination

Warren, Mi.-based Inspired Organics issued the recall “out of an abundance of caution after additional product testing following previous recalls returned presumptive positive test results for potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes,” according to an FDA Recall Notice issued on Dec. 20.

Specific products affected by the recall include:

These products were distributed by Lipari Foods. LLC, to food service and retail stores throughout Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada.

All ‘Best-By’ Dates and Lot #s of the above products are affected by the recall.

Listeria infection, or listeriosis, is a foodborne illness that most often occurs in children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems. However, in rare cases, otherwise healthy adults can become infected as well. Signs and symptoms of listeriosis include:

If you purchased any of the recalled items, you should not eat them, and either discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a recall.

To date, no listeria infections or any other illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled items, FDA said.
