Colorado Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Over E. Coli Contamination

The recalled meat was produced in 10-pound “chubs” on Aug. 16, FSIS said, and shipped to warehouses in Colorado and California. The chubs are typically repackaged and distributed to retailers.

Products affected by the recall can be identified with the words “EXCEL 93/7 FINE GRIND GROUND BEEF” with “Use/Frz. By Sep. 5” on the labeling, and a “PACK DATE 08/16/2018” on the box label.

The problem was discovered on Aug. 22 during a record review that determined the beef in question was potentially associated with meat that had tested positive for E. coli, FSIS said.

“There are no known illnesses associated with the product,” said Michael Martin, Cargill’s director of communications. “We don’t know of anyone who has been ill.”

Signs and symptoms of E. coli infection include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal cramping
• Fever

Anyone concerned about an E. coli illness should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
