Fiat Recalls Older Jeep Liberty SUVs for Suspension Problem that Could Increase Crash Risk

Jeep Liberty

The recall affects Jeep Liberty SUVs from model years 2004 through 2007 (239,904 in the U.S., 49,712 in Mexico, and 36,199 outside the North American region), Fiat said.

The automaker says water can get into the rear lower control arms and cause rust and possibly cracks. That could hurt a driver’s ability to control the SUVs and lead to a crash.

Jeep says it is aware of at least one crash linked to the problem. No injuries have been reported to date, the automaker said.

To remedy the situation, dealerships will replace the rear lower control arms and customers will soon be notified when they can schedule their service.
