GM says it is aware of at least 30 crashes associated with the steering problem, including 2 serious injuries, according to ABC Action News.
The automaker says power steering on the recalled models can fail during a voltage drop and suddenly return, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects the following vehicles, all of which are from model year 2015:
- Chevrolet Silverado
- GMC Sierra 1500 pickups
- Cadillac Escalade
- GMC Yukon
Dealerships will update the power steering software at no cost to owners. No date has been set to notify customers, but GM says the software is available now, so owners can contact dealers to schedule repairs.
More than 1 million of the trucks were sold in the U.S., and most of the rest are in Canada and Mexico. There’s a small number in other countries, NHTSA said.
