The problem affects about 11,500 CRF250R off-road bikes, CPSC said in a recall alert issued Thursday.
The recalled motorcycles were sold in a red color, and have “HONDA” and “CRF250R” printed on the side of the bike. The model name and model year are printed on a nameplate label on the front right top of the frame, near the steering head, CPSC said.
Dealers have been instructed to stop selling new and used 2018 CRF250R motorcycles until the problem has been fixed.
Honda says it will contact owners of affected motorcycles and make the necessary repairs at a dealership at no cost. The official recall began on Thursday.
There have been no reports of accidents or injuries associated with the recall, CPSC said.
