Michigan Company Recalls Sub Sandwiches Over Listeria Risk

The recalled sandwiches were produced by Lipari’s sister company, JLM, according to an FDA recall letter issued on Sunday.

Products affected by the recall include (brand, product, Lipari product #, sell-by date, UPC):

• Premo Brand Turkey & Swiss Sub 915537 4/6 OZ 08/06/2018 17201807 612510001042
• Fresh Grab Turkey & Swiss Sub 251694 18/6 OZ 08/06/2018 17201807 612510001042

These sandwiches were produced on July 17, 2018, and distributed to food service and retail stores in the following states: Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Infection with Listeria monocytogenes causes listeriosis, a foodborne illness that kills more than 250 people each year in the U.S., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems are most vulnerable to the illness. Signs and symptoms include:

• Fever
• Diarrhea
• Muscle aches
• Loss of balance
• Convulsions

If you purchased any of the recalled sandwiches, you should not eat them, and either throw them away or return them for a full refund.

To date, no listeria infections or other illnesses have been linked to the recall, FDA said.
