Pet Food Company Expands Salmonella/Listeria Recall

Tests conducted by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) found Listeria monocytogenes and salmonella in a package of Columbia River Naturals ‘Cow Pie’ flavor pet food, as well as salmonella in a package of the company’s ‘Chicken & Vegetables’ flavor. Both pathogens have the potential to cause severe, potentially deadly infections in both animals and humans.

The recall affects the following products:

These products were distributed through retail sales and direct delivery to consumers in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. The foods are intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding of dogs and cats, according to the manufacturer.

If you purchased any of the above products, you should not feed them to your animals, and either discard them immediately or return them in their original packaging to the point of purchase.

To date, no illnesses in either pets or humans have been reported in connection with the recall, the company said.
