Affected models include Polaris RZR XP 1000 recreational vehicles from model years 2014 thru 2018, CPSC said in a recall notice issued on April 2. More than 107,000 of the vehicles were sold in the U.S.
The problem has to do with cracked or fatigued exhaust silencers, which may lead to melting of nearby components or fire. To date, Polaris has received at least 30 reports of cracked exhaust silencers, including 3 reports of fire. No injuries have been reported.
If you purchased a recalled RZR XP 1000 recreational vehicle, you should stop using it immediately, and contact your local Polaris dealership for a free repair.
CPSC recently hit Polaris with a $27 million civil penalty for failing to notify the agency in a timely manner that it had discovered defects in its RZR and Ranger vehicles. Including this latest one, Polaris has now recalled more than 500,000 vehicles for manufacturing defects which could result in fires, burns, or death.
