Stella Artois Beer Recalled for Glass Fragments

The Belgian-based Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) issued the recall after discovering that one of its third-party European bottlers was using equipment that could cause glass to break off and fall into the bottle. AB InBev said the problem affects less than 1% of bottles sold annually in North America.

“We made the decision to voluntarily recall certain packages potentially containing the affected 11.2-ounce (330ml) bottles as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our consumers,” Stella said on its website.

Included in the recall are Stella six-packs, 12-packs, 18-packs, 24-packs, single Stella bottles in “Best of Belgium” multi-packs, as well as U.S. market Stella Artois Légère six-packs and 12-packs.

The company has not specified which lot numbers are included in the recall, but consumers may go to the recall announcement to enter information found on the bottles.

Brewery personnel are working with the packager and say they’re confident the accident won’t happen again. To date, no injuries or other incidents have been associated with the recall, Stella said.
