Tesla Autopilot Car Accident Lawsuit Filed in Florida

The lawsuit was filed by Shawn Hudson, a man from Florida who suffered spinal and brain injuries in a car accident on October 12.

Hudson was driving about 80 miles per hour with the autopilot activated when he rear-ended a disabled Ford Fiesta in the left lane without stopping.

Hudson said he was relaxing and may have glanced at his phone shortly before the crash, but claims he had his hands on the wheel.

Hudson accuses Tesla of misleading drivers into believing that the autopilot feature made the car essentially capable of driving itself, according to the lawsuit:

“Tesla has duped consumers, including Hudson, into believing that the autopilot system it offers with Tesla vehicles at additional cost can safely transport passengers at highway speeds with minimal input and oversight from those passengers.”

The lawsuit is In RE: Hudson v. Tesla Inc. et al.Case Number 2018-CA-011812-O, in the Circuit Court for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida.
