Texas Meatpacker Recalls 9 Tons of Smoked Sausage for Plastic Contamination

The recall affects 8.16 metric tons of smoked sausage produced for Texas businesses by Eddy Packing Co., FSIS said in a recall notice issued on Monday. This marks the second large-scale recall for the company in less than a month, as it recalled nearly 25 tons (22.68 metric tons) of smoked sausage due to the same problem on May 4.

The latest recall involves 10-pound (4.54-kilogram) cases of Carl’s Pork and Beef Smoked Sausage on a Stick. The items have a lot code 8073, case code PS9319, a sell-by date of March 14, 2019. The USDA marker is “EST 4800,” FSIS said.

Eddy Packing issued the recall after receiving a customer complaint about soft, green plastic material in a product.

If you purchased any sausage included in this recall, you should not eat it (regardless of whether you can see any plastic pieces), and either discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

To date, no injuries or other incidents have been associated with the recall, FSIS said,
