40,000 Pounds Ground Beef Recalled from Meijer Supermarkets for Plastic Contamination

The ground beef was produced on March 20, and shipped to Meijer Supermarkets in Michigan and Wisconsin. Products affected by the recall include:

FSIS classified the action as a Class II Recall, which means that it is “a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.”

JBS Plainwell issued the recall after the company received 2 complaints of hard green plastic pieces in its ground beef products. FSIS was notified of the problem on April 5.

If you purchased any ground beef that is affected by this recall, you should not eat it, and either discard it immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

To date, there have been no injuries or other adverse events associated with the recalled ground beef, FSIS said.
