9 Brands Dog Food Recalled Over Vitamin D Toxicity

Routine testing found excess levels of vitamin D in the recalled dog food products, the agency said in a Press Release on Dec. 20. Consuming too much vitamin D can cause severe health problems in pets, including kidney failure and death.

These products were distributed to retailers and specialty dog food vendors across the U.S. If you purchased any of the above dog food, you should not feed it to your pet, and either discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase.

Signs and symptoms of vitamin D toxicity may include:

FDA is asking veterinarians who suspect vitamin D toxicity in their patients to report them through the Safety Reporting Portal or by calling their local FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinators.
