Butterball Recalls 78,000 Pounds Ground Turkey Over Potential Salmonella Contamination

The recall affects the following products:

These items were produced on July 7, 2019, but FSIS is concerned that some of the turkey may still be in consumers’ freezers.

All of the recalled products bear the establishment number EST. P-7345 inside the USDA mark of of inspection, and were shipped to retailers across the U.S. Consumers who find the product in their freezers are instructed to either discard it immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

Salmonella is estimated to cause about 1.2 million illnesses in the U.S. annually, resulting in 23,000 hospitalizations and 450 deaths. Symptoms of salmonella infection, or salmonellosis, typically being 12 to 72 hours after infection and include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Patients with compromised immune systems, the elderly population, and young children are most at risk for developing severe infections.
