Pilgrim’s Pride Recalls Nearly 60,000 Pounds Chicken for Rubber Contamination

The problem was discovered on Jan. 30 after a customer complaint was filed with a Publix supermarket regarding white rubber pieces in Pilgrim’s Pride popcorn chicken. While there have been no injuries or other adverse events associated with the recall, FSIS is concerned that contaminated chicken may still be in some consumers’ freezers.

These items were produced on Jan. 4, 2019, and bear the establishment number “P-7091A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Contamination with foreign objects in food is a common cause of food recalls in the U.S., accounting for about 20% of all recalls over the past 6 months alone, according to CBS News.
