Stater Bros. Recalls Ground Beef After Deadly Salmonella Outbreak

Central Valley Meat Co. is recalling over 34,000 pounds of Stater Bros. ground beef products after a deadly outbreak of Salmonella, according to the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).

At least 10 people in 6 states have been infected with a strain of Salmonella Dublin after eating ground beef.

FSIS determined that there is a link between ground beef products from Central Valley Meat Co. and this illness cluster.

The outbreak is unusually severe, with 8 people hospitalized and 1 death reported from California, according to an investigation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The recalled ground beef items were produced on July 23, 2019 and labeled with “EST. 6063A” inside the mark of inspection. The following products were recalled at retail locations in California:

Salmonella infections usually cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated food. The illness usually lasts for 4 to 7 days, but in some cases, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized.
