Birds Eye Peas Recalled for Potential Listeria Contamination

The recall announcement was initially released on October 3 by the supermarket chain Publix, but has yet to appear on either Pinnacle’s website or the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s.

Affected products come in 13-ounce packages with UPC code 014500022530 and Best By dates of July 05, 2019 & July 06, 2019. The case lot Nos. are 3905079AB1 and 3906079AB1.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Listeria infection (listeriosis) is a foodborne illness that typically affects children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems. However, in rare cases otherwise healthy adults can become infected as well.

Signs and symptoms of listeriosis include:

• Fever
• Muscle aches
• Nausea
• Diarrhea

If the infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms may include:

• Headache
• Stiff neck
• Confusion or changes in alertness
• Loss of balance
• Convulsions

Consumers who purchased any Birds Eye peas included in this recall should discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

No listeria infections or other illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recall, Publix said.
