Colby Cheeses Recalled Over Listeria Contamination

The recent listeria contamination of certain cheeses from Deutsch Kase Haus has spread to include the following Guggisberg deli products:

• Guggisberg Cheddar Horns
• Guggisberg Colby Horns
• Guggisberg Farmer’s Cheese horns
• Guggisberg Garden Vegetable Horns
• Guggisberg Marble Horns
• Guggisberg Marble Longhorn
• Guggisberg Pepper Jack Horns
• Guggisberg Thunder Jack Horns
• Guggisberg exact Marble Mini Rounds – UPC bar code #710917 361018
• Guggisberg exact Colby Mini Rounds – UPC bar code #710917 361025
• Guggisberg exact Pepper Jack Mini Rounds – UPC bar code #710917 361032
• Guggisberg Cheese with Yogurt cultures deli horns

These products were manufactured between Sept. 1, 2016 and Jan. 27, 2017, and sold primarily in retail stores at deli counters and deli cases in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois, and West Virginia. Affected products have use-by dates of June 1, 2017 – Oct. 27, 2017.

Guggisberg said in a notice provided to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it was recalling the products “out of an abundance of caution and with an emphasis on its customers’ wellness and safety.”

Symptoms of listeria food poisoning (listeriosis) include fever, muscle aches, nausea and/or diarrhea. If the infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms may include confusion, loss of balance, convulsions and death.

The ongoing listeria outbreak has already been linked to recalls of Sargento, Taylor Farms, MDS Foods, Choice Foods, and Country Fresh products.

Consumers who purchased cheese affected by any of these recalls should discard the products or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

To date, not illnesses have been reported in connection with the listeria outbreak.
