The burritos were produced by the multi-national company Sigma Alimentos Congelados, according to an FDA Recall Notice issued Friday. Affected products were distributed to retailers in California and Nevada.
This recall includes:
- Menu Del Sol brand frozen “Beans and Cheese” burritos;
- 2-pound twin-packs;
- Lot number C3018;
- Date code “BEST BY MAR01 18” and
- UPC number 45230-05601.
“The potential contamination was found as a result of routine product testing and the recall is being initiated out of an abundance of caution,” FDA said. “Consumers are reminded to fully cook frozen food products according to package instructions.”
Consumers who have purchased any burritos affected by the recall should discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
To date, there have been no reports of listeria infection associated with this recall; however, it can take up to 70 days for symptoms to develop after exposure.
When symptoms do appear, they may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Anyone who has eaten any of the recalled burritos and developed symptoms of listeria should seek medical attention immediately.
