On March 13, Vulto Creamery expanded a recall for raw milk cheese to include four more products that may contain Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous food poisoning bacteria.

The expanded recall includes all lots of 8 types of soft cheese: Andes, Blue Blais, Hamden, Heinennellie, Miranda, Ouleout, and Walton Umber, and Willowemoc cheese.
In response, Whole Foods also expanded the recall to include Vulto products sold at 8 stores in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.
The cheese was cut and packaged in clear plastic wrap and labeled with PLU Codes #0200307, #0201357 or #0206308 and “Sell-By” dates from January 2, 2017 through April 2, 2017.
The products were sold at the following Whole Foods Markets:

- 300 Bergen Town Center, Paramus, NJ
- 238 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY
- 1095 Avenue of the Americas. New York, NY
- 270 Greenwich Street, New York, NY
- 4 Union Square South, New York, NY
- 575 Boston Post Road, Port Chester, NY
Six illnesses have been reported since September 2016, including two deaths, in Connecticut (1), Florida (1), New York (3) and Vermont (1).
One illness was reported in a newborn baby, suggesting the mother was infected and transmitted it to her baby in the womb. Pregnant women often have no symptoms of Listeria, but infections are extremely serious for babies and can lead to miscarriage or death.
The first lawsuit was filed in New York by the family of Richard Friedman, a 73 year-old man from Westminster West, Vermont. He died after suffering a stroke 23 days after he was hospitalized with Listeria food poisoning. His widow says they purchased Vulto raw milk cheese in October 2016.
