Organic Green Beans Recalled for Listeria Poisoning

The recalled green beans were sold in 10-ounce bags with Best By dates of June 4, 2017, thru June 21, 2019, according to a recall notice issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on November 7.

Affected products were sold in 3 retail chains in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Nature’s Touch claims none of its other products have been affected. Consumers who purchased any of the recalled green beans should discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria infection, or listeriosis, is a foodborne illness that typically affects children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems. However, in rare cases otherwise healthy adults can become infected as well.

Signs and symptoms of listeriosis include:

• Fever
• Muscle aches
• Nausea
• Diarrhea

If the infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms may include:

• Headache
• Stiff neck
• Confusion or changes in alertness
• Loss of balance
• Convulsions

To date, not listeria infections or other illnesses have been associated with the recall.
