The recall was issued after Hampton Farms’ nut supplier, Hudson Valley Foods Inc., found Listeria monocytogenes in its processing plant in Highland, NY.

Affected products include:
Ava’s 8 oz. Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews
UPC 8-10111-01036-8
Lot# 11817 Exp 4/28/18
Lot# 12617 Exp 5/1/18
Lot#15917 Exp 6/5/18

Ava’s 8 oz. Organic Roasted Unsalted Almonds
UPC 8-10111-01032-0
Lot#10217 Exp 4/10/18

The recalled nuts were distributed to retailers in New Jersey. All told, less than 650 units of Ava’s brand Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews and Organic Roasted Unsalted Almonds products were offered for sale.

Consumers who purchased any recalled products should discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a recall.

“We deeply regret this situation and have employed our established recall plan to immediately remove the product from distribution,” said Dallas Barnes, President of Hampton Farms. “Nothing is more important than providing safe and wholesome, quality products.”

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause severe infections in children, the elderly, and others with compromised immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Anyone who has eaten any of the recalled nuts and developed symptoms of listeria infection should seek medical attention and consult their physician about the potential exposure. It can take up to 70 days after exposure for symptoms of listeriosis to develop, so people who have eaten the recalled products should monitor themselves for symptoms during the coming weeks.

To date, no listeria infections have been associated with the recall.
