Ready Pac Recalls 30 Tons of Salad Over Listeria in Cheese

According to a USDA recall notice issued Wednesday, this recall affects:

These salads were produced at three Ready Pac facilities in California, Georgia and Swedesboro, N.J. between Jan. 17, 2017 and Feb. 17, 2017.

“The problem was discovered on Feb. 21, 2017 when the firm received notification from the cheese supplier that the cheese ingredient utilized in the chicken salad products was included in an expanded cheese recall due to potential contamination with L. monocytogenes,” USDA said. “There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.”

Consumption of foods tainted with listeria can lead to listeriosis, an infection that causes symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.

Listeriosis is dangerous to pregnant women because the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery and life-threatening illness in newborn babies. The infection can also be fatal in elderly people and individuals with compromised immune systems.

Consumers who purchased any Ready Pac chicken salads affected by this recall should discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
