Sausage Patties Recalled for Listeria Contamination

Affected products include 2 lbs. plastic sleeve packages containing “Breakfast Best Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties” with a sell-by date of 5/15/2018 and establishment number “EST. 174791.”

The sausage patties were produced on Aug. 8, 2017, according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Listeria was initially detected during routine testing at Fair Oak’s distribution center in Wisconsin. Affected products were placed on hold, but then accidentally shipped, FSIS said. Click here to view labels of affected products.

Listeria bacteria can cause listeriosis, a severe infection which typically affects the elderly, people with compromised immune systems, pregnant women and their newborns. Signs and symptoms of listeriosis include:

• Fever
• Muscle aches
• Headache
• Stiff neck
• Confusion
• Loss of balance
• Convulsions
• Diarrhea
• Other gastrointestinal symptoms

In pregnant women, listeriosis can cause:

• Miscarriages
• Stillbirths
• Premature delivery
• Life-threatening infection of the newborn

Consumers who purchased any sausage patties affected by the recall should discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
