Sweet Peas Recalled Over Potential Listeria Contamination

Lakeside Foods issued the recall after routine testing by the State of Florida identified the presence of listeria, according to an FDA Recall Notice issued on April 4. The company has ceased distribution of the product.

The sweet peas were sold at Aldi stores in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Florida.

Affected products were distributed in poly bags under the following label codes:

Season’s Choice Sweet Peas, Net Weight 16 oz (1 LB) 454 g UPC code 041498164294

All of the suspected packages have been removed from store shelves. If you purchased any of the above products, you should discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

Listeria monocytogenes is a common foodborne pathogen that can cause severe health complications in pregnant women, the elderly, children, and people with compromised immune systems.

Symptoms of listeria may take up to 70 days to present, and typically include fever, body aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
