Buttermilk Biscuits Recalled Over Potential Listeria Contamination

Westerville, Ohio-based T. Marzetti issued a recall notice indicating that the following products are being recalled “because they may have been contaminated with listeria”:

The recall includes all “Best By” dates of the above frozen biscuit dough, according to the producer. Affected products were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

None of the above products are ready-to-eat and proper baking can reduce — but not eliminate — the risk of listeria infection.

Infection with Listeria monocytogenes causes listeriosis, a condition that affects about 1,600 people each year in the U.S., including 260 people who die from its complications, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems are most vulnerable to listeriosis. Signs and symptoms of the infection include:

If you purchased any recalled biscuit dough, you should discard it immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.

To date, there have been no reports of listeria infections or other illnesses associated with the recall.
