King Arthur Flour Recalled for Salmonella Contamination

King Arthur Flour Recall

The recall was initiated after tests revealed salmonella in a sample of the flour, according to a recall notice issued Friday by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Affected products can be identified through the following label information:

The recalled flour was distributed through retailers and distributors across the U.S., FDA said.

Eating food contaminated with salmonella bacteria can cause salmonellosis, a common foodborne illness that causes symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after consuming the offending product.

Salmonellosis typically lasts 4 to 7 days, but in some patients diarrhea may be so severe that it requires hospitalization. Children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems are particularly likely to develop severe reactions to the bacterium.

If you purchased any of the recalled flour, you should discard it immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

To date, there have been no reports of salmonella infection or any other injuries associated with the recall.
