Mary B's Biscuits Recalled for Listeria Risk

Hom/Ade Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Mary B’s® brand biscuits due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses were reported. The problem was discovered in a product sample by an outside co-packer who manufactured the product.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning infections — especially in young children, elderly people, and people with weak immune systems.

The following Mary B’s® biscuit products were recalled:

According to a recall notice posted by the FDA on January 11:

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

Mary B’s biscuits were sold in retail grocery stores in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Geordia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

The biscuits are supposed to be baked before consumption. Baking will reduce the risk of food poisoning with Listeria, but there is a risk that mishandling the product prior to baking may cause illness.

Hom/Ade Foods Inc. voluntarily recalled all affected products and is working with the FDA and supplier to fix the problem.

Consumers are urged to return affected products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

For more information, consumers can call Hom/Ade Foods Inc. at 1-855-562-7773, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time.
