Whole Foods recalled Dorset cheese at stores in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.
Whole Foods announced the recall in response to a recall from Consider Bradwell Farm for Dorset, Slyboro and Experience cheeses that were distributed in California, Massachusetts, New York, Texas and Vermont.
The recalled Dorset cheese was cut and wrapped in plastic with a Whole Foods Market scale label, identifiable by PLU code 97776 with sell-by dates through 10/30/2019.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled cheese. The recalls were issued after routine testing of finished products and the manufacturing environment were positive for Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning illnesses, especially in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The short-term symptoms may include a high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
