Food poisoning with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause meningitis, sepsis, or death. It is most serious for children, older adults, sick people, and pregnant women.
The symptoms of Listeria infection may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea.
Publix was notified of possible Listeria contamination by their supplier of dried apricots. According to spokeswoman Maria Brous:
To date, there have been no reported cases of illness. As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves.”
The recall involves 5.7-ounce clear plastic containers of mixed dried fruit. They were sold in the produce section of Publix grocery stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina with a UPC of 41415-08586. All “use-by” dates were recalled.
