Hill’s Pet Nutrition has announced a voluntary recall for certain canned dog food products due to a risk of excessive levels of Vitamin D.
Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs, but excessive levels of it can cause health problems. The symptoms depend on how much food the dog was eating and the amount of time it was eating the food.
Dogs may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss.”
In very high levels, Vitamin D overdoses can cause kidney dysfunction and other serious health problems in dogs.
Pet parents with dogs who ate any of the products listed below and are exhibiting symptoms should contact their veterinarian. In most cases, complete recovery is expected after discontinuation of feeding.
