Hunter has received 38 reports of the lightbulb falling due to the incorrect instructions in the United States. There were another 2 reports in Canada. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should check that the lightbulb was installed correctly by turning it clockwise until it stops and is resting firmly in place.

According to the recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):

The owner’s manual instructs consumers to install the light globe incorrectly and the light globe can fall, posing an impact injury hazard.”

This recalled Hunter Contempo ceiling fan Model #59176 (cherry and dark walnut blades) and Model #59174 (light gray oak and gray walnut blades). The model number is on a label on top of the motor housing.

Hunter Contempo ceiling fans were sold at Costco stores nationwide and online at Costco.com between January 2016 and August 2017 for $130. Refurbished fans were sold on eBay, Amazon, and Groupon.

The recall involves about 168,000 ceiling fans that were sold in the United States. In addition, about 1,900 were sold in Canada.
