The handlebars on recalled models may develop small fatigue cracks over time, which may continue to grow if not identified and eventually lead to a fracture of the handlebars, according to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).

The recall affects the following mountain bikes from model year 2017:

  • Karakoram Sport
  • Karakoram Comp
  • Aggressor Sport
  • Aggressor Comp
  • Aggressor Expert

The bikes were sold in a variety of colors, but the recall only involves models with a solid black GT logo on the downtube and a stem marked “Ø31.8 9-10N.m.”

An estimated 1,000 affected bikes were sold in the U.S. and about 240 in Canada from June 2016 to August 2017.

To date, there have been no reports of injuries associated with the recall. If you own one of the models listed above, you should stop using it and contact an authorized GT dealer or Cycling Sports Group to schedule a free repair of the handlebar and stem.
