IKEA has received reports of 186 tip-over incidents involving the MALM chests and dressers, including 91 children who were injured.
In addition, there have been 113 reports of tip-over incidents involving other recalled IKEA chests and dressers, resulting in 53 children who were injured.
At least 8 children have died in tip-over incidents. The most recent death occurred in May 2017 when a 2 year-old boy from Buena Park, California was trapped under a MALM 3-drawer chest that tipped over.
According to the recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):
The recalled chests and dressers are unstable if they are not properly anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in injuries or death to children.”
The recall involves the following dressers and chests:

The recalled dressers and chests were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online at www.IKEA.com from January 2002 through June 2016 for between $70 and $200. IKEA also recalled other hazardous dressers and chests that have been sold since approximately 1985.
