The lawsuit was filed by Lucia M., a woman from Arizona who was implanted with the Option™ ELITE Vena Cava Filter (“IVC Filter”) manufactured by Argon Medical Devices Inc. and Rex Medical, L.P.
The IVC Filter was implanted in her vein to catch blood clots and prevent a pulmonary embolism on January 15, 2015 at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona by Dr. Renato M. Santos.
The IVC Filter was not successfully removed. The filter is tilted and perforated through her vein and into her spine. One perforated strut has involvement with an adjacent lumbar body.
Rex Medical and Argon Medical Devices are accused of negligence for selling a defective medical device and failing to warn about risks.
The lawsuit was filed on December 17, 2018 in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania — Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas (Trial Division / Civil Section) — Case ID: 181201960.
