The recalled bison products were distributed to grocery stores and institutions across the Eastern and Central United States.

Illnesses have been reported in Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The recall involves ground bison, referred to as “Bison Ground,” as well as ground bison patties, referred to as “Bison Burgers” or “Buffalo Burgers,” produced from February 22, 2019, through April 30, 2019.

The bison patties were sold to retailers in 4 x 4-ounce blue boxes under the Northfork Bison label with expiration dates up through October 8, 2020.

The products are labeled with brand-names such as Fossil Farms, Northfork Canadian Bison Ranch, or Sayers Brook Bison Ranch.

The outbreak investigation has identified 21 cases of E. coli since March 2019, including 8 people who were hospitalized, with illnesses reported in Connecticut (1), Florida (4), Michigan (1), Missouri (1), New Jersey (2), New York (9), and Pennsylvania (3), according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
