Mountain Rose Herbs of Eugene, Oregon, recalled all sizes of whole fennel seeds (Lot #25031), ranging from 4-oz. to 50-lb bags, due to a potential risk of contamination with Salmonella.
No illnesses have been reported. The Salmonella contamination was discovered by the company in a portion of its active inventory.
The recalled Fennel Seed Whole was sold directly to customers who ordered from mountainroseherbs.com, purchased at the company’s retail shop in Eugene, Oregon, or placed mail orders by phone or fax.
The recalled fennel seeds were sold at the Mountain Rose Herbs retail shop in Eugene, Oregon; on their website, mail order, and fax.
They were also sold at vitamin and health food stores in AZ, CA, CO, FL, IL, MA, MI, MN, MT, NC, NE, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WV and to one consignee in Canada.
The fennel seeds were sold in a clear plastic bag or poly-woven bag marked with Lot # 25031 from April 2019 through July 18, 2019.
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning infections. The symptoms often include fever, bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in more severe complications such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, arthritis, or death.
