The recall affects certain Toyota Prius and Lexus RX and NX SUVs. Also being called back are some Toyota Alphard, Vellfire, Sienta, Noah, Voxy, Esquire, Probox, Succeed, Corolla, Highlander, Levin and Hilux models.

The recalled vehicles were manufactured between May 2015 and March 2016, NHTSA said.

Toyota says an open electrical circuit could occur in affected models over time. This could set off an airbag warning light and stop the side and front airbags from inflating during a collision.

Dealers will inspect serial numbers on sensors and replace them if necessary at no cost to owners. Toyota will notify owners beginning next month.

To date, no injuries or other incidents have been associated with affected models, Toyota said.
