The recall affects 3 ounce cans of Muse wet cat food Natural Chicken Recipe in Gravy, FDA said. Affected products were distributed across the U.S. and sold separately, as well as in a variety pack bundle. The recalled cans have a “best by” date of April 2020 and a UPC code of 28100 17199.

The extraneous rubber pieces are translucent yellow with a blue backing, according to the FDA.

“We only want products that meet our high-quality standards in your pet’s bowl,” a Purina spokesperson said on the FDA website. “We became aware of the issue after receiving complaints from pet owners who observed rubber pieces in the product. We have made changes to our process so this should not happen in the future.”

If you purchased any of the recalled cat food, you should not feed it to your animal, even if it looks ok, and either discard it immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.

To date, no animals have been injured by the recalled cat food, FDA said.
