The recalled items were produced by Leclerc Foods, and include 9.5 oz. boxes of Fit & Active Chocolatey Chip Protein Meal Bar packages with the UPC Code 41498-18695, according to a Recall Notice issued Thursday by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

The bars have a best-by date of May 24, 2018. No other products are affected by the recall, FDA said. Aldi says it removed all the bars from store shelves Tuesday.

Most plastic is inert and non-toxic, according to WebMD. However, it can present a choking hazard. Heating foods with plastic has been found to release bisphenol A and phthalate chemicals, which can be toxic if consumed in large amounts.

If you purchased any of the recalled protein bars, you should discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

To date, no injuries or other incidents have been reported in connection with the recall, according to Aldi.
