The recalls, which involve a variety of products, were all announced over the past week after 6 pets died or were sickened, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). One of the animals was a kitten, but the types of the other pets was not disclosed. Also, 2 children became seriously ill, FDA said.

The 6 animal cases have been linked to Darwin’s Natural and ZooLogics pet foods, which are manufactured by Tukwila, Wash.-based Arrow Reliance, a company that has issued at least 4 recalls for salmonella or listeria since Oct. 2016. The latest recall was on Saturday after safety tests detected salmonella in their raw pet food product.

Redbarn Pet Products of Long Beach, Calif., recalled its 3-packs of 7-inch Bully Sticks dog chews after the Colorado Department of Agriculture reported that one sample collected from a store tested positive for salmonella.

Colorado authorities also prompted the recall of Smokehouse Pet Products’ 4-oz. bags of Beefy Munchies dog treats after salmonella was detected in 2 packages manufactured by the Sun Valley, Calif., company.

The 2 reports of human illness were the result of contact with Raws for Paws Ground Turkey Pet Food, according to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). The agency identified the bacteria while testing products made by the Minneapolis-based company.

Human symptoms of a salmonella infection (salmonellosis) include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps which last up to week, FDA said. Pets don’t always have symptoms, but when they do present may include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, loss of appetite and lethargy.
