Specialized Recalls Select Bicycle Steerer Tube Collars — — Specialized is recalling "Future Shock" steerer tube collars on select Roubaix, Ruby, Diverge, and Sirrus bicycles because the steerer tube can crack and cause the rider to suddenly lose control and crash. Based upon reports from the field, Specialized believes that the steerer tube collar may be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking, which may result in sudden loss of steering control. Sudden loss of steering control increases the risk of accident, which could result in a serious injury to the rider and potentially other people. The recall affects all Roubaix, Ruby, Diverge, and Sirrus bikes sold between September 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018. The recall includes most Specialized bicycles from 2017, 2018, and 2019 equipped with Specialized’s Future Shock front road suspension. Consumers should stop riding their recalled bicycles immediately and return them to their nearest authorized Specialized retailer for a replacement steerer tube collar, free of charge. Specialized says the "new, improved collar which, together with an adjustment to the torque setting, will significantly improve the collar's resistance to stress corrosion cracking." Director Jon Goulet said the company has reported the matter to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and are working closely with them on a press release announcing the recall shortly. However, due to the ongoing U.S. government shutdown, recall websites are not active and the CPSC is not posting important recall information online until funding is restored.
